Frequently asked Rules

Do I always get relief from a staked tree?
No you do not always get relief from a staked tree.  You only get relief from the stake not the tree.  If your ball lies in the area of intended swing or stance is interfered by the stake you would get relief from the stake. In order to get complete relief from the tree there would have to be a local rule in place that says, in order to protect our newly planted trees you may take full relief from the stake and tree. The stake is an obstruction in the USGA Rules book the tree is just a tree.

May I rake the bunker after I have taken a stroke at my ball in the bunker and my ball is still in the bunker?
Yes you may rake if the raking does not affect the lie of the ball, area of intended swing or stance for the next stroke.

May I take a couple of clubs with me into a water hazard and lay them in the hazard?
You may take a couple of clubs or your whole bag and put them into the hazard whether water hazard or bunker.

When playing team play can my partner stand behind me when I am making a stroke?
No, your partner may line you up for the stroke but must move from behind you before you make the stroke.

May I borrow my partner’s driver when I am playing team play?
You may borrow your partners club if between you both you are carrying only 14 clubs total.

During team play may I pick up my ball and let my partner play the hole?
Yes, you may and we encourage doing just that when you are out of the hole. This is one way to speed up play along with conceding short putts to your opponents.
